Tasting notes

Appearance

Light ruby red.

Aroma

Plenty of freshness, spice, cherry-kirsch with well-integrated oak and a hint of mint.

Palate

Full-bodied, with very soft tannins and fine texture. Plenty of cherry fruit, toasted notes and a fresh finish. A refined wine with complexity.

About this wine

The label was drawn by Henry Ournac in the late 19th century – he made caricatures for political newspapers such as «Le Frondeur» and signed them «En-ry». The label reads «Mélasse 1ère qualité», first-quality molasses: a provocative joke, since molasses was exactly what dishonest merchants added to wine to boost its alcohol strength. This wine is the exact opposite – genuine quality. Each bottle is numbered, with several label colours per case. An unusual Pinot Noir for Languedoc. — Camille Ournac
